This was my first shoot at Oaklands, a kind of reborn JDL Studios which I had previously used and enjoyed shooting at. So when I understood that Oaklands was the 'new JDL' I booked it for a first shoot with PrettyB.
Neil met us at Wakefield train station and drove us to Oaklands (and back). He was very helpful throughout, carefully taking us all round the house, outbuildings and sets, and explained everything including the family history of the house, the lighting equipment and its possibilities.
The house consists of lovely period Victorian (mostly) decor and furnishings, including a genuine family library and a fine red-carpeted staircase. The big windows provide good natural light. There's a great workshop set, a hospital set, and a lovely garden with a view. In fact most of the 'sets' are actually a series of period rooms, more or less as they were once lived in.
For the shoot, we had a free run of it all apart from the private quarters of course. In fact from my own point of view, there was so much scope, we couldn't use all of it in the time we had, so we both agreed we'd love to come back.
I totally recommend Oaklands especially for anyone looking for a period look for their shoot. However, this studio is 'work in progress' and Neil has great plans especially for the outbuildings and garden area, so watch this space!
